‘Teddy Bear Parachute Jump’ for Save the Children

Challenge your teddy! Is your bear brave enough to make a parachute jump from a Church tower in the village to raise funds for Save the Children?

Ruddington’s ‘Teddy Bear Parachute Jump’ is taking place from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday 16th September at St Peter’s Church.

Organiser Jane Piggott explains “The idea is for children (and any adults who might be interested) to make parachutes for their teddies or other soft toys and then bring them along on the day to register to make the jump from the church roof. There are lots of instructions available online about making parachutes from plastic bags, fabrics or paper – the choice of material is entirely up to you.”

A single jump will cost just £2 and all further jumps will cost £1. All toys successfully completing the jump will receive a certificate and there’ll be prizes for the best parachutes. There’ll also be stalls on offer on the day, either out in the church grounds or inside the church if it is wet.

For further details beforehand you can contact Jane by email or call on 07790 295266. Otherwise, just turn up with teddy and his parachute!

All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Save the Children Fund. This first time this event was held in Ruddington (September 2021 – photos above and below) it raised £600 for this good cause.

The registered charity was established in the UK in 1919 to ‘ improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities. It also provides emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts.’
